“Craziness” – Kenny Miller Slams Speculation That Celtic Are Trying To Replace 36 Year Old

Former Celtic and Rangers striker Kenny Miller says he is against the Hoops replacing Joe Hart as the club’s number one this summer.

The former England international has been a regular starter since he moved north of the border two years ago but there has been growing speculation that he could be replaced. It is not something that Miller agrees with:

“There’s a lot of chat about Joe Hart about maybe moving him on and replacing him which I think is craziness at this moment in time.”

Mistakes both last campaign and in pre-season have prompted some supporters to push for a change of keeper, even though the club have not been seriously linked with a replacement for the 36-year-old.

There have been some wafer-thin rumours in Turkey that the Hoops could try and hijack Fenerbahce’s move for Croatian international Dominik Livakovic but, so far, no credible source has backed up those claims.

Does Hart fit in with Rodgers’ style of play?

The veteran keeper was famously told by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola that he was not capable enough with his feet to play for him.

With Brendan Rodgers preferring to play a similarly expansive brand of football, it would suggest that the Irishman will dispense with Hart’s services as well.

However, in an interview earlier this month, Rodgers made it very clear that Hart’s kicking game won’t become a stick to beat him with, stating that he simply wants the Englishman to concentrate on what he is best at:

“It’s for me to assess everything but I have always liked Joe. He’s 36 but he trains so hard every day and he’s a great influence around this changing room. That will be really important and you can never underestimate that.”

“He is undervalued in terms of what he can do with his feet. I don’t need him to be Ederson at Man City – I just need him to keep the ball out of the net. Then when the ball comes back to him, I just need him to play simple.”

“From what I have seen so far, and from Celtic games in the past, I think he can do that. So yeah, that question maybe applies for later on, but as I see Joe now, he’s been fantastic for Celtic and a great influence.”
