Brendan Rodgers Targets Premier League Winner As First Signing Since Returning To Celtic

Brendan Rodgers wants Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey to be his first signing since being re-appointed as Celtic boss, according to TEAMtalk.

The Ghanaian, who won the Premier League with the Foxes in 2016, will leave the King Power Stadium on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Amartey is believed to have interest from Saudi Arabia but he is said to be open to linking up with his former manager once again at Celtic Park.

TEAMtalk claim that the Hoops are expected to get in contact with the 28-year-old’s representatives in the coming days to discuss a potential move to Glasgow.

Amartey is very much a utility player

During his time at Leicester, the Ghanaian international played the majority of his matches as a centre-half, but he was also regularly used as a right-back and holding midfield player.

Rodgers clearly rates Amartey’s adaptability and his ability to fill in across a number of positions makes him an attractive target.

What other transfer targets will Rodgers be considering?

It should be noted that, at least, one other player is expected to join Celtic very soon, with a deal for Valerenga midfielder Odin Thiago Holm reportedly in the works. The Norwegian won’t technically be a Rodgers signing, though, as the recruitment team were working on the deal prior to the Irishman’s arrival.

With regards to other areas, a new striker could well be looked at, with Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu the only real out-and-out forwards in the first-team squad.

There could also be a case for strengthening at centre-back. While Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt are a strong centre-back partnership, their understudies Yuki Kobayashi and Stephen Welsh have not looked that impressive. You can’t rule out a new keeper either, depending on whether Rodgers is keen on a younger shot-stopper than Joe Hart.
