Celtic and Ange Postecoglou are set to take on St. Mirren in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Can the Bhoys avoid a potential banana skin and move on to the quarter finals?
In the fourth round, Celtic calmly dispatched Greenock Morton, winning by a comfortable score of 5-0. St. Mirren on the other hand, battled to a penalty shoot out win over Dundee.
It’s been a great season for the Celts so far, as they sit atop the Scottish Premiership nine points clear of rivals Rangers. Likewise, St. Mirren are also enjoying an admirable campaign, as they’re currently in 6th position with a game in hand on several of the teams above them.
Interestingly, the Buddies have the honour of being the only team to inflict defeat upon Celtic in the SPFL this season. In that game, St. Mirren ran out as 2-0 winners, despite the Celts having 80% of the possession.
In January, however, Celtic gained a modicum of revenge, as they beat St. Mirren by a score of 4-0 at Celtic Park. Can they repeat the feat?
Celtic could be without Benjamin Siegrist, as he missed out on their last game against St. Johnstone, failing to even make the bench. He is reported to be back in training, though.
Anthony Ralston could return to the team. He was absent for the win over St. Johnstone, but he has been in training and may be ready to play against St. Mirren.
Unfortunately, Stephen Welsh and James McCarthy will both miss out, as they recover from their respective long-term injuries.
