Chris Sutton Pinpoints The One Position Celtic Must Improve Before The Transfer Window Shuts

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes that the Hoops need to strengthen their options at centre-back to ensure they have the best chance of winning ten in a row.

The BT Sport pundit says he was very concerned by the number of chances Hamilton created despite the Scottish champions easing to a 5-1 win last weekend, and he thinks Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien need competition:

“As yet, there is still no back-up for Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer at centre-back and there is also a case to be made for signing someone to go in and compete for the place. Now perhaps Jullien and Ajer were slightly off their game against Accies because they thought it might be a bit of a stroll, but you’d have to be alarmed at the way Hamilton’s strikers got about them.”

Following Jozo Simunovic’s exit back in June, manager Neil Lennon said explicitly that the club were actively looking to replace the Croatian.

So far, though, no centre-back has been brought in with midfielder Nir Bitton and right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed Lennon’s backup options at the moment.

Although there is still many weeks before the transfer window closes to get someone in, many will feel that there should have been a new signing in this area before the season started. If the defence does start to creak in upcoming matches, Celtic’s poor recruitment will be to blame.
