Commons Calls On Celtic To “Push The Boat Out” Or Risk Losing Key Target To The Likes Of Chelsea

Ex-Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has called on his former club to splash the cash in order to seal a deal for Southampton’s Fraser Forster.

The Hoops have already let one goalkeeper, Craig Gordon, leave this summer after offering a new contract on significantly reduced terms, and Commons feels that they will need to loosen the purse strings if they want to sign their number one target:

“If it’s about money, Chelsea can offer Forster four times the wages available at Scotland’s richest club. Gordon’s departure now makes it more important than ever that Celtic push the boat out to get Forster back.”

“For me, it’s just typical Celtic. They’ve always had this knack of trying to get players as cheap as possible, without bursting the bank. When you’re on the verge of ten in a row, you have to go that extra yard.”

Some reports in the Scottish media claim Celtic are in indeed trying to sign Forster on a permanent basis, but negotiations are likely to be fraught with difficulty.

Southampton are said to be keen on Olivier Ntcham, and it remains to be seen whether manager Neil Lennon would be prepared to sacrifice the Frenchman in order to secure Forster’s signature.

In addition, the goalkeeper would need to take a significant pay cut in order for the move to go ahead. At the moment, this transfer appears to be very much in the balance.
