David Turnbull Gives His Take On Whether He Sees 6.2M Celtic Transfer Happening

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull claims Jota is enjoying his time on loan in Glasgow and he hopes that the 22-year-old will join on a permanent basis.

The Hoops have an option to buy the former Portuguese Under 21 international for £6.2m and Turnbull says the first-team squad would very much welcome him staying at the club:

“We hope that he signs, but it’s up to them and the club to decide that. I’m sure the boys would be keen on him doing that anyway. He seems to be enjoying life in Glasgow, on the pitch you can see that. And away from the pitch, he seems to be enjoying it as well, apart from the weather. He seems to be loving life.”

“Jota’s been absolutely flying and we are pleased for him. From the first minute, he’s been excellent both on and off the ball and he’s been doing what he needs to do. He’s chipping in for the team by scoring goals and that has been excellent. It’s great for him and it’s great for the side.”

From the sound of things, Jota seems to be settling into life in Scotland pretty well, which is definitely a good omen in terms of whether he would consider a permanent transfer.

It should be pointed out, though, that plenty of other players have joined the team on loan over the years (who were seemingly open to staying), and ended up returning to their parent club.

Unlike some loans, though, Celtic do have a purchase option this time and, if he continues to perform well, it will be hoped that the clause will be triggered at the end of the season.
