Davie Hay Claims Celtic Ace Is Postecoglou’s Best Signing As He Contrasts Him To West Ham Flop

Celtic legend Davie Hay has named Kyogo Furuhashi as Ange Postecoglou’s best signing for the club.

The Japanese international was an unknown quantity during his first season in Scotland but Hay says that the forward has proven himself after excelling in his second year with the Hoops:

“We all know about one-season wonders. They are players who are unknown to the opposition when they are first introduced to our game… He completed the season with 20 goals and if he hadn’t been out injured for a total of four months you can only take a guess at what he would have ended up with. So, every defender in the land knew what to expect when Kyogo turned up for his second season. And they still haven’t been able to do anything about him.”

Hay contrasted the £4.6m paid for Kyogo with the £5m that the club shelled out on West Ham striker Albian Ajeti, which emphasises how much of a bargain the Japanese star was:

“Put it this way. Who would you prefer leading the Celtic attack, Kyogo or Albian Ajeti? And the Swiss player cost £400,000 more when he joined from West Ham a year earlier.”

24 goals in 36 appearances this season is an excellent record but Kyogo won’t want to stop there. After lifting the League Cup last month, the 28-year-old will be looking to help Celtic win the Premiership title and Scottish Cup to make it a memorable treble.

The Scottish champions face Hearts in a doubleheader over the next few days, with the league game at home on Wednesday evening, before the cup quarter-final at Tynecastle this weekend.
