English Club Make Loan Enquiry For Celtic Target As Battle For Championship Poacher Heats Up

Wigan have made an enquiry about signing Sheffield Wednesday forward Jordan Rhodes on loan, according to reports in the UK. Both the English club and Celtic are said to be interested in the striker, but the Latics are the first to make an official approach.

Owls boss Garry Monk has already stated that the 29-year-old won’t be allowed to leave Hillsborough this month, but the forward’s lack of game time does suggest the Englishman would be open to a move.

Rhodes has made just four league starts this campaign, and has been a substitute in Wednesday’s last two games against Cardiff City and Stoke.

Celtic are looking to strengthen their frontline in order to lighten the load on first-choice striker Odsonne Edouard, and it may well be that the Hoops are weighing up a loan bid for Rhodes if other deals don’t come off.

At the moment, however, it seems like Slovan Bratislava’s Andraz Sporar is the Scottish club’s top priority, although his asking price could prove a major stumbling block.
