Former Manchester United midfielder Ji-Sung Park is keen to see whether Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu can get ahead of Kyogo Furuhashi in the pecking order at the Scottish champions.

Park is currently technical director at K-League side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and he has seen a lot of Oh, who played for the Suwon Bluewings. When asked about the player’s prospects of succeeding in Scotland, the 42-year-old replied:

“If he wants to succeed he’ll have to start more matches and I know there’s the Japanese striker who scores so many goals, so Oh will have to think of a positive way to replace him and score more goals.”

“At the beginning, it’s a good sign for him and I’m happy to see him play. He’ll need to be patient and control his mind well because he won’t start every match. He’ll have to show when he gets the chance which is not easy, but I hope he can manage it.”

Although Celtic did shell out £2.5m on Oh to provide competition for Kyogo, the South Korean is expected to play second fiddle for the time being.

The 21-year-old has looked pretty impressive when given opportunities by manager Ange Postecoglou, having scored twice in nine appearances since joining the club during the January transfer window.

However, with Kyogo being the club’s top scorer with 26 goals this season, getting past the club’s number eight will be a serious challenge for Oh. We shall see how he progresses in the coming months.
