Ex-Celtic player Charlie Nicholas has questioned Scott Brown’s legendary status with the veteran midfielder nearing the end of his time at the Hoops.
The former Sky Sports pundit does not believe it will be hard to find a replacement when the club captain moves to Aberdeen in the summer:
“Scott Brown will be easy to replace on the field for Celtic. All this ‘legend’ talk is nonsense. A legend should have been the best ever player in a position or be remembered for doing something great like the Lisbon Lions. What Celtic will have more difficulty replacing is Brown’s personality and leadership qualities in the dressing room.”
Unsurprisingly, those remarks did not go down well with supporters on Twitter, with many aiming their fire back towards Nicholas:
Nicholas is only now famous for having a nickname. An extremely unfulfilled talent like so many others, forgotten.

Charlie chip on his shoulder wasted his career and was better than the way his career went.

They are very strange comments by Nicholas. Brown has spent 14 seasons at Parkhead, winning 22 major trophies during that time. While the term “legend” can be overused, that is not something you could argue in Brown’s case.
Of course, the Scottish club haven’t really shone on the European stage in Brown’s era, but even so, he managed to help his side to the last 16 of the Champions League back in 2007.
On the domestic front, his record has been completely spotless, having been part of four consecutive trebles, as well as winning individual honours, such as the Player’s Player Of the Year on two separate occasions.
