FIFA Set To Announce Plans Which Could Impact Celtic’s Title Bid

FIFA are expected to confirm that the 2019/20 season will be extended for an indefinite period in light of the ongoing global health crisis, according to The Athletic.

Such a decision from the game’s top governing body will no doubt have an impact on the SFA and SPFL’s decision on how to complete the remaining fixtures in Scotland.

There had been claims in recent days that the two organisations were to confirm Celtic as champions with the season ending early. However, FIFA’s declaration will make such an announcement difficult, especially in light of UEFA’s stance on the matter.

There would also be some positive news if FIFA do extend the season indefinitely as it would effectively rule out a “null and void” campaign which some other clubs in the Premiership are said to be in favour of.

Although it may only be the start of April, the SFA and SPFL are under massive pressure to make a decision due to the financial strain which the current crisis has placed on some clubs.
