Former Chelsea And United Manager Named As Shock Contender For Celtic Hot Seat

Jose Mourinho is eighth favourite to take up the vacant manager’s job at Celtic, following his sacking by Tottenham yesterday.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United head coach is undoubtedly a rank outsider for the role, but bookmaker Paddy Power have named him above the likes of Jesse Marsch, Chris Wilder and Steve Clarke in their list of frontrunners.

Whether this is just punters fancying a bet on an unlikely appointment, it isn’t known, and Hoops supporters shouldn’t be holding their breath that Mourinho will make the move to Celtic Park.

The 58-year-old was reportedly earning a staggering £15m a year at Spurs before he left the London club, so even if Celtic owner Dermot Desmond was interested in speaking to the Portuguese manager, the finances involved would make an agreement almost impossible.

Eddie Howe remains the odds-on favourite to be appointed, but it is concerning that the 43-year-old is stalling on whether to take the job. The Hoops can only wait so long, with a massive squad rebuild required before the start of next season.
