Celtic are keeping tabs on FC Volendam defender Xavier Mbuyamba, according to reports in the UK.
The Netherlands youth international had spells at Barcelona and Chelsea before he returned to his homeland to get first-team football.
During his first season in the Eredivisie with Volendam, he has impressed, attracting the attention of the Hoops and a number of other teams. Fans on Twitter have been discussing whether the centre-half would be a good addition to the squad:
Get him signed

Looks like he’d probably be better in a busquets-style DM role. Not the strongest or quickest CB by the looks of it

At the very least we need someone who can come in and give Starfelt real competition. If that results in Carl upping his game/consistency to hold his place in the team then great. Been really disappointed with Yuki over the last couple of games.

Mbuyamba is relatively unproven but, at 21 years of age, he is someone who still has big potential, so it would not be a surprise if Celtic took a gamble on him.
If Stephen Welsh does leave Parkhead this summer, there would probably be room for the Dutchman to take his place in the squad and, if he impresses enough, there is a chance he could displace Carl Starfelt as the regular centre-back partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers.
