“Getting More And More Calls” Sporting Director Reveals Celtic May Have Competition To Sign 29 Goal Marksman

VVV Venlo sporting director Stan Valckx has confirmed that there are a number of teams interested in striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

Celtic have reportedly opened talks about signing the Greek international, who scored 29 goals in all competitions last season, but Valckx claims there is a lot of interest in the 26-year-old:

“We still assume Jako (Giakoumakis) will be sold soon for the amount we have in mind. It has gotten noisier in the last few weeks, we are getting more and more calls.”

Giakoumakis has less than a year left on his contract and he is available for around £2.5m. It is believed Hoop boss Ange Postecoglou has already contacted the forward directly to persuade him into moving to Scotland. It seems to have done the trick as the player is now keen on joining Celtic.

Even though Giakoumakis was prolific in the Dutch Eredivisie, it must be pointed out that he wasn’t particularly known for his goalscoring up until last season. There will be some concerns that he may be a one-season wonder. However, Postecoglou appears to be convinced that he will be a suitable replacement for Odsonne Edouard.
