Harry Redknapp Rates Celtic’s Chances Of Appointing Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard’s uncle, Harry Redknapp, has said his nephew may well be open to the possibility of managing Celtic, if the position becomes available.

Lampard was sacked by Chelsea yesterday morning and was immediately linked with replacing Neil Lennon in the hot seat at Parkhead.

When asked about the potential appointment, Redknapp was hesitant to say whether Lampard would be interested, but he said any coach would be open to managing such a big club:

“That’s certainly something that would interest any manager. It’s a great football club to come and manage, that’s for sure. Neil Lennon is still there so I wouldn’t want to talk too much about someone else taking his job but obviously, it would be interesting to see Frank in direct opposition to Steven Gerrard.”

“I don’t know whether, if the Celtic job came up, it would be something that would interest Frank. Obviously, Neil Lennon is still in charge and I wouldn’t want to see him lose his job. Would Frank want to jump straight back in if it did become available? I wouldn’t know. But you could certainly see the appeal.”

A lot of the speculation has been based around the possibility of seeing Lampard face Steven Gerrard in the opposing dugout at Rangers, so it does seem to be a rather speculative story at this point.

Redknapp has probably added fuel to the fire with his comments but we shall see if there are any further developments. The bookies still have Lampard as third favourite to replace Lennon, behind Rafa Benitez and Eddie Howe, and it will be interesting to see if those odds shorten or lengthen in the coming days.
