Ex-Celtic player Davie Provan has called on his former club to steer clear of Tottenham goalkeeper Joe Hart in their quest to sign a new number one.
The Hoops are believed to be in talks to sign 34-year-old, who has 75 caps for England, but Provan feels that the former Manchester City player does not possess the quality needed:
“Ange Postecoglou should ignore any advice to sign Joe Hart. There’s a reason Hart was bombed by England, Manchester City and couldn’t get a game for Burnley. He’s always had a ricket in him.”
Provan goes on to recommend Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist as a potential alternative, who he thinks is a much better option than Hart:
“For a fraction of Hart’s wages, Celts could sign Dundee United’s Benji Siegrist who’s now in the last year of his contract. No brainer.”
If we look at Hart’s save percentage stats since he left Manchester City, there is undoubtedly a worrying trend. During his loan spell at Torino, he saved 66.3% of his shots, and that dropped to 59.8% with West Ham.
After moving on a permanent basis to Burnley, the Englishman improved slightly during his first season at Turf Moor (65.8%) before dropping to a new low (50%) in his second campaign.
His time at Spurs has been largely successful, though. In his eight appearances for the London club last season, he saved 75% of the shots he faced.
