“He’s Shown It…” Mark Schwarzer Explains Why Ange Postecoglou Is Better Than Antonio Conte

Mark Schwarzer says Ange Postecogolou’s ability to coach and improve players is one of the Celtic manager’s outstanding qualities.

Postecoglou has been linked with replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham, and Schwarzer says the ex-Chelsea head coach does not have the Australian’s ability to get the most out of his squad:

“I think he changes players, he’s got the ability to, and he’s shown it, to make players better. We don’t see a lot of that these days. Even the big-name managers like Antonio Conte. Tell me a player that’s actually better at Spurs? I don’t think there’s a single player since he has been there that has gotten better. That is something Ange does really well. If you go on that journey with him he wants you there, he improves players with the quality of football they play but as an individual.”

It’s a very fair point that Schwarzer makes. You only have to look at the performances of players such as Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers to see that Postecoglou is able to get the very best out of the players at his disposal.

In contrast, Conte is known to prefer working with older, more experienced footballers, who already know their game and can execute tactical instructions without much in the way of direction.

While Conte has achieved much more in terms of silverware than Postecogolou in his coaching career, if you want someone to take charge of a team for the long term, you would have to choose the Celtic boss.
