Celtic have made an opening bid of €1.5m (£1.3m) for Rennes right-back Brandon Soppy, according to reports in the French media.
The 18-year-old is also attracting interest from the likes of RB Leipzig, while his current club are said to be trying to persuade the defender to sign a new contract.
With Soppy’s current deal expiring next summer, it seems Celtic believe they can get the fullback at a knockdown price. Some fans think it could be a good move:
He’s supposed to be a player

Hope it’s true, can send Bauer back to Stoke without a care ???

I’d take him but he would be the third choice right back ?

While other supporters have questioned whether the Scottish club need another right-back:
No really

Saw this earlier.
Be surprised if we were in for a right back.

A bid for Soppy is quite a surprise considering Celtic are pretty well stocked on the right-hand side of defence. Although Moritz Bauer is returning to Stoke after his loan spell, manager Neil Lennon still has Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed at his disposal
The availability of the French teenager, though, may have proven too good of an opportunity to turn down.
