“I’d Be Delighted If I’m Wrong…” The Athletic’s Kieran Devlin Issues Very Concerning Celtic Transfer Update

The Athletic‘s Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin has raised doubts about Cameron Carter-Vickers completing a permanent move to the Hoops this summer.

Multiple reports have confirmed that the Scottish champions are locked in talks to keep the American international but Devlin believes that the Tottenham loanee’s main priority is to play in the English Premier League:

“The fee is agreed with the initial loan move so it’s entirely up to the player and what he wants, it’s not about what the clubs can come in with fee-wise. Personally, think him making it permanent is fairly unlikely and has been unlikely the entire season because his dream has always been Premier League, so if that interest is there it’s hugely tempting. I’d be delighted if I’m wrong and he decides to stay, though, because partnered with someone good on the ball would be a great partnership next season.”

As Devlin mentions, Celtic do have an option to buy Carter-Vickers, with an initial fee believed to be around the £6m mark, but the player has to agree to the transfer.

It would throw a spanner in the works if the 24-year-old does decide to move back down south. He has been the backbone of the club’s defence this season, and his loss would be keenly felt.

Christopher Jullien could be seen as a potential replacement, with the Frenchman having hardly played since returning from a serious knee injury back in February. However, there are question marks about his long-term future as well.

Fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that Devlin is proven wrong and Carter-Vickers does sign on the dotted line.
