“Interested In Him…” Celtic Named Among Six Clubs Chasing Deal For Chelsea Outcast

Celtic are one of the clubs keen on snapping up Chelsea attacking midfielder Ross Barkley, according to Simon Phillips.

The insider source, who is usually very reliable when it comes to transfers involving the English Premier League club, claims that the Hoops are competing with five other teams for the 28-year-old’s signature:

“With Ross Barkley, he’s got a lot of other clubs interested in him at the moment so it’s not just Everton. He’s got Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa and Celtic. So got plenty of options to go to.”

It is a rather strange link, to be honest with you. A playmaker is not high on Celtic’s list of priorities, with the Scottish champions more in need of a holding midfield player.

Barkley’s wages would also probably be a major obstacle. He is undoubtedly earning a wage in excess of six figures per week;  the sort of numbers that are well outside the Hoops’ budget, even with Champions League football.

For now, it’s probably wise to take this claim with a large pinch of salt but we’ll keep you updated if other sources do confirm Celtic’s interest.
