Is Ange Postecoglou Better Than Brendan Rodgers?

Ange Postecoglou, despite being at Celtic for a relatively short amount of time, has already won the hearts of Bhoys fans across the globe with his exciting football and clever signings.

Postecoglou’s talents and achievements as a manager cannot be denied. He is drawing comparisons to a former Celtic boss who also achieved great success at the club – Brendan Rodgers. But who is the better manager?

We’ll only be looking at each manager’s time spent at Celtic for this piece – Postecoglou cannot match up to Rodgers’ pedigree elsewhere, having managed internationally-renowned clubs such as Liverpool and Leicester City (his current team).

At the time of writing, Postecoglou’s win percentage with the Celts is superior to the ratio that Rodgers accumulated – the Aussie’s Celtic win percentage stands at 74.51%, while Rodgers’ finished at 69.8. However, Rodgers spent just under three years at Celtic Park – almost double the length of Postecoglou’s reign.

Rodgers also led Celtic to one of their greatest seasons of all time in 2016/17, as they went unbeaten throughout the entire league season. Not only this, they also won both domestic trophies that year. Thought that was impressive? They also won the treble the following year, giving them an ultra-rare ‘double treble’.

Postecoglou has a monumental task on his hands if he’s to match this level of success. They’re still on course to win a treble this year, provided they can maintain their position in the league and win the Scottish Cup. They cannot match Rodgers’ unbeaten season, though, having picked up a league defeat earlier in the campaign against St. Mirren.

Currently, we believe it would be unfair to declare Postecoglou as a better manager than Brendan Rodgers. He simply hasn’t had the time necessary to equal Rodgers’ success – but he’s certainly getting there.
