“Is It A Bigger Club? I Would Say No” Lambert Raises Doubts About Celtic Star Being Leicester’s Tielemans Replacement

Celtic legend Paul Lambert does not think that Matt O’Riley should be considering a transfer to Leicester City this summer.

The Foxes are said to be keen on signing the 21-year-old if they sell Youri Tielemans. The Belgian has less than a year left on his contract and he could be sold to either Arsenal or Manchester United before the transfer window closes.

O’Riley only joined Celtic in January from MK Dons and, while he acknowledges there are certain attractions to joining an English Premier League club, Lambert says the Danish Under 21 international would be downgrading if he did decide to move to Brendan Rodgers’ team:

“The only thing that counts against Celtic probably is where the club plays. If he went to Leicester, you’re in the Premier League. And they have the biggest revenues, the biggest budgets, and all of those things come into it. But football wise, is it a bigger club? I would say no. Leicester are a good club. I was down a couple of months ago seeing Brendan and the training facilities are absolutely incredible. So, it’s very difficult for people to turn that down, but Celtic is a monster of a football club.”

While O’Riley has admitted that he is flattered by the interest from Leicester, he has emphasised that he is happy at Celtic Park. The midfielder has only just begun to establish himself in the first team at the Scottish champions and he would probably benefit more from staying in Scotland and learning from an outstanding coach like Ange Postecoglou.
