“It’s Been A Real Struggle” Kieran Devlin Reveals Major Concern About Celtic Summer Signing

Getting Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis match fit has been a big issue, according to The Athletic‘s Hoops correspondent Kieran Devlin.

The Greek international has only made two substitute appearances for the club since his move from VVV Venlo in the summer, and Devlin claims that the forward has had fitness problems throughout his career:

“Think that fitness issue is an ongoing thing throughout the player’s career, speaking to people who have known him before, last season was a bit of an anomaly with his form and fitness… Potentially, it’s been a real struggle to get him to match fitness though apparently.”

It will be hoped that Celtic haven’t spent £2.5m on a dud. Giakoumakis did have an exceptional season in the Eredivisie last campaign but it was the only season in the 26-year-old’s career that he managed to play more than 30 games.

After coming on against Motherwell in the 2-0 win at the weekend, though, it will be anticipated that he can play more of a part when the Hoops face Ferencvaros in the Europa League tomorrow evening.

Like Celtic, the Hungarians have lost both of their games in the group stage so far, and this is a big opportunity for Ange Postecoglou’s side to get their European campaign up and running.
