Celtic will only have to hand over 25-30% of the transfer fee to Paris Saint-Germain if they sell Odsonne Edouard this summer, according to Daily Mail reporter John McGarry.
The journalist says reports in England that the Hoops would have to hand over 40% are wide of the mark:
“I don’t think it’s as high as that but I think it’s higher than normal. The club had a chance during Edouard’s loan period to get him for a reduced sell-on fee and hesitated. I think it’s in the region of 25-30%.”
This could have important ramifications in terms of selling Edouard. There were claims that Celtic may be forced into selling the Frenchman to Leicester for £15m as the Foxes would also allow them a sizeable sell-on fee.
However, that figure would have meant that the Scottish club would only receive £9m from the 23-year-old’s sale; the same amount that the Hoops signed him for from PSG.
Since then, though, caretaker manager John Kennedy has said that the club would demand a lot more than what Leicester were thought to be offering.
It’s a complicated situation with a lot of conflicting reports, and with teams such as Arsenal and Roma believed to be interested, it will be hoped that competition from different clubs will drive up the price.
