“Just Isn’t Going To Cut It” Sutton Writes Off £3m Celtic Signing Following Form Struggles

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton does not believe that fullback Boli Bolingoli has the ability to make it at Parkhead.

The Belgian was signed from Rapid Vienna for £3m last summer but has struggled to make an impact, with many criticising his performances during recent pre-season games.

Sutton thinks that the Hoops will need to go into the market for another left-back before the transfer window closes as the Scottish champions cannot rely on Bolingoli:

“Left-back is another area. I still can’t understand why Jonny Hayes was allowed to go because Boli Bolingoli just isn’t going to cut it at Celtic, I’m afraid.”

“Greg Taylor looked neat and tidy in France and could make the jump forward but that’s not assured and who is there if anything happens to him?”

It’s clear that manager Neil Lennon isn’t convinced by Bolingoli’s performances either. The 25-year-old did make 28 appearances in all competitions last campaign but he has barely played since the New Year.

The last time he featured in the league for Celtic was in the 2-1 defeat to Old Firm rivals Rangers back in December last year, with Greg Taylor and Jonny Hayes being used as wingbacks following the change in system to 3-5-2.

Many felt Bolingoli’s attacking instincts would have been a better fit for the new formation but Lennon gave him limited game time.
