Lennon Considers New Deal For Celtic Star Amid Claims That EPL Club Are Lining Up £20m Bid

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the club are considering whether to extend Kristoffer Ajer’s contract.  The Norwegian’s current deal expires in 2022 but the 21-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Leicester City are reportedly weighing up a £20m offer for the player at the end of the season, and Lennon thinks extending Ajer’s deal could help protect their asset from unwanted advances:

“Kris Ajer is one we might look at. He’s played nearly all the games since I’ve been in and I’m very happy with him as well.”

“These players are obviously assets too, and there will be admirers out there, no question, with the way they are playing. So, it’s a bit of protection for us as well as settling down the players if they are getting agitated by a little bit of speculation.”

Lennon has confirmed that the Hoops are in talks with Callum McGregor about signing a new contract, with Leicester also said to be interested in the Scottish international.

Both players have been regulars this campaign, with Ajer having made 23 appearances in all competitions, while McGregor has featured 25 times for the Hoops.

The pair are likely to be in the starting line up once again when Celtic face Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night, when the Scottish champions will be looking to consolidate their position at top of their Europa League group.
