Lennon Hits Back At “Negative” Ex Sky Sports Pundit Saying “He Doesn’t Speak For Me”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has snapped back at comments made by former Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas who has been disappointed with the Hoops’ spending in the summer transfer window.

The ex Celtic and Arsenal forward criticised the loan deal for AC Milan’s Diego Laxalt as a “cheap option” stating Lennon would have been disappointed not to be backed more in the transfer market. Asked to respond to those comments, Lennon didn’t hold back with his remarks:

“If we had signed Messi and Ronaldo, Charlie still would have found fault with it. He’s been negative about the club for years. Charlie doesn’t think for me, he doesn’t speak for me.”

It’s true that Nicholas, in particular, has been heavily critical of Celtic over the past years, and most of his barbs have been aimed at the club’s board who he has regularly accused of penny-pinching.

Some supporters would agree with those sentiments but, even so, the Scottish champions have spent £13m over the course of the window and, considering the financial pressures of the global health crisis, that is certainly not a low figure.
