Lennon Provides Injury Update And Rates Chances Of Celtic Ace Returning For Ross County

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard missed the 3-1 win over Rennes last night with a “niggle”, according to manager Neil Lennon.

Lewis Morgan was given a surprise start as a makeshift centre-forward due to the Frenchman’s absence and the Hoops boss says that the minor injury will need to be assessed ahead of Sunday’s match against Ross County:

“We didn’t want to take any chances. We’ll see how he is for the weekend. That performance was without Odsonne [Edouard], so it shows how well we can play.”

It was certainly wise to rest Edouard considering the Scottish club have already qualified for the knockout rounds of the Europa League.

They will, of course, not want to rush the 21-year-old back but he is a key player for the team, having scored 13 goals in all competitions this season.

Leigh Griffiths is gradually getting back to full fitness but the fact that Lennon opted to start Morgan last night does suggest the 29-year-old is not yet ready to play from the start. He played the last 11 minutes against Rennes.

With Vakoun Issouf Bayo still sidelined with a knee injury, it will be hoped that Edouard is ready to play this weekend.
