Lennon Says There IS A Solution So Celtic Can Secure Nine In A Row Without Playing Another Game

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is adamant that the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership season will not be made null and void even if no more fixtures are played.

The football authorities have cancelled games up until April 3rd, but there is a concern that the Coronavirus outbreak will mean matches will not be possible for the foreseeable future.

However, Lennon believes that as the season has reached 30 games, it would be unfair to abandon the whole campaign, and he has suggested awarding positions based on the average points total from previous results:

“We’re 13 points clear. And I think in most of the other leagues, like Dundee United, they’d have to be promoted as well. Certainly, if you are talking about the Armageddon of the league being cancelled or stopped, it should go on the average points total which would make us clear champions and rightly so.”

“We are over 30 games into the season, they are not going to take that away from us. Are they going to do that to Liverpool? I would doubt it very much. I get your point about Hearts but you have to look at average point per game and take it from there. If it was to stop now I would doubt very much that they would say it was null and void.”

Whether such a solution will be used by the SPFL, we shall have to wait and see. There is no real precedent for a season to be suspended in such a manner.

Some fans will want the season concluded no matter when that takes place but the final decision will rest with those in charge. It could be a while before anything is resolved
