Lennon Shuts Down Talk That Celtic Will Make Bid For £3m Rated Wide Man

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has dismissed rumours that the Scottish club will make a bid for Hibernian winger Martin Boyle before deadline day next week.

Head of Football Operations Dean Hammond was spotted in the stands when Hibs faced Hamilton on Wednesday, fuelling talk that the Hoops were lining up a bid for the Australian international but Lennon refuted the claims:

“I know Martin well, he did great for me at Hibs, but that is just complete speculation. People are putting two and two together and getting five.”

There had been reports that Hibs have set an asking price of around £1.5m for the 26-year-old, but it is believed his club have slapped a £3m price tag on the player.

In any case, it appears Boyle is not one of the club’s primary targets at the moment, with Lennon suggesting the club are looking for an “Elyounoussi-type” signing who has the experience to come in and make an impact straight away. The emphasis appears to be on finding a quality addition, but whether Celtic will secure a deal before the window closes, it remains to be seen.
