Mark Wilson Calls On Celtic To Seal 6M Deal For A Player Who Has Been “A Rock”

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has praised Cameron Carter-Vickers for the impact he has had since his arrival at Parkhead last summer.

The American international joined the Hoops from Tottenham on loan back in August and Wilson feels the centre-back has been key to the club’s success this season:

“You’ve got to say that Cameron Carter-Vickers, for a team who were in disarray last year, the defence was all over the place. He’s been the one who’s steadied the ship and he cruises through games. He’s made such a difference to that team. If you’re a team who wants to win things and win titles your defence has got to be right. He has been a rock for Celtic this year.”

Celtic do have the option to sign Carter-Vickers for £6m but there has been some speculation that a trio of English Premier League teams: Leicester, Wolves and Watford are all keen on signing him as well.

Manager Ange Postecoglou was rather cautious when he provided an update on Carter-Vickers’ future last week and, although most reports point towards the 24-year-old staying at Celtic Park, it will be hoped that a team south of the border doesn’t hijack the move.

A deal that could reach £10m (including add-ons) may seem like a sizeable outlay but, as Wilson points out, Carter-Vickers has made such an impression, it would be a big loss if he were not to sign on a permanent basis.
