McAvennie Explains Why He “Won’t Be Too Disappointed” If 22 Goal Celtic Striker Misses Out On League Cup Final

Celtic legend Frank McAvennie says he “won’t be too disappointed” if Kyogo Furuhashi misses out on the League Cup final due to the presence of Oh Hyeon-gyu.

The South Korean hasn’t even started a game for the Hoops since his January move from Suwon Bluewings but McAvennie claims he would provide an unknown quantity if he were to start against Rangers at Hampden Park:

“I won’t be too disappointed because I think he (Oh) would give [Ben] Davies and [Connor] Goldson a bit of a game. But I hope that Kyogo is fit. If he does not play for the next two weeks or so he might be ok and we could get a half out of him. Rangers do not know much about Oh so they do not know how to handle him. They know how to handle Kyogo so that could go in our favour.”

It’s an interesting point that McAvennie makes but most supporters would certainly prefer Kyogo to be in the team, considering his superb form this campaign.

The 28-year-old has scored 22 goals in all competitions, including one versus the Gers in the derby at the beginning of last month.

In terms of Kyogo’s chances of playing in the cup final, things are very much up in the air at the moment. The Japanese international was due for a scan on a shoulder injury earlier this week but no news has so far emerged about a potential return date.
