McCoist Praises ‘Lightning’ Celtic Starlet Who He ‘Really, Really Likes’ After League Cup Showing

Former Rangers striker and manager Ally McCoist believes Celtic have a real talent on their hands in Jeremie Frimpong, despite the Dutchman’s sending off in the League Cup final yesterday.

The 18-year-old was given his marching orders after fouling Alfredo Morelos in the box during the second half of the 1-0 win over Rangers, but McCoist was impressed with the fullback’s speed when he was on the pitch:

“Tell you who I do like; Frimpong. He was the get out when Rangers were dominating the game, on the right. I really, really like him; he’s lightning by the way. Really, really quick.”

Manager Neil Lennon took a gamble by selecting Frimpong ahead of the much more experienced Moritz Bauer at Hampden Park, and while his red card could have jeopardised the victory, he didn’t show any signs of nerves after being handed his start.

It will be interesting to see whether the teenager keeps his place when Hatem Abd Elhamed returns from injury. The Israeli international has spent the last month on the sidelines with a groin problem and he is likely to remain out of contention for another fortnight.
