McGregor Bats Away Title Talk As He Makes Prediction About Celtic’s Progress

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has refused to be drawn on whether the Hoops are genuine title contenders following their excellent recent form.

There were a lot of question marks about the team before the last international break after some poor results but, while he is delighted by the progress made in recent weeks, McGregor says it is too early in the season to be talking about finishing top:

“We were probably on the receiving end of those questions a couple of weeks ago before the international break. Now you see how quickly it can turn, so by no means do we start to look at the end game. We’re only a quarter of the way through the season, so there’s so much more football to be played.”

McGregor claims he is more excited about the development he is seeing among Celtic’s young squad and he anticipates that they will keep on improving as a team week by week:

“The good thing about this team is that there’s still improvement in it. We keep putting those demands on each other to get better and better. And, again, I think you saw the fruits of that against Hibs.”

With Celtic now only two points behind league leaders Rangers after the matches midweek, it is not surprising that people are beginning to wonder again about the Hoops’ title chances.

McGregor is, though, right to point out that this team is still in the early stages of a new era under manager Ange Postecoglou and there could be more setbacks along the way, despite some very promising signs recently.
