McNamara Slams Three Summer Signings Who Are Simply Not Good Enough For Celtic

Former Celtic defender Jackie McNamara believes questions have to be asked about the Hoops’ summer transfer activity following a difficult start to the season.

Albian Ajeti was signed for £5m from West Ham, while both Shane Duffy and Mohamed Elyounoussi were brought in on loan from Brighton and Southampton respectively. However, McNamara has asked why the trio have been deemed good enough for Celtic when they didn’t make the grade in the Premier League:

“The likes of Duffy, he’s not been good enough for Brighton and they’ve wanted him out. Ajeti at West Ham, Elyounoussi at Southampton. here’s three players who have not been deemed good enough at three teams in England. So, how are they good enough for Celtic at the moment?”

In Duffy’s case, there are legitimate questions as to why he was brought in considering his form struggles but McNamara is being a bit harsh on Ajeti and Elyounoussi.

Ajeti’s form may have dropped alarmingly since picking up an injury at the end of September but the Swiss international had scored five goals in six league appearances before then.

Elyounoussi has had his off days but the 26-year-old’s 10 goals and four assists in 19 appearances so far this campaign is certainly not a bad record at all.
