National Coach Confirms “Offer” Was Made As Celtic Vie With EPL Clubs For Teenage Sensation

Northern Ireland Under 18 coach Gerard Lyttle has revealed that Cliftonville winger Sean Moore has been the subject of a recent £200,000 bid.

The teenager has been linked with both Celtic and Newcastle in recent months but Lyttle claims it was West Ham that made an approach:

“I think there was an offer from West Ham, around the £200,000 mark. I watched him last Saturday. It was probably one of his quieter games, yet he scored a goal and won a penalty. So, he had a real impact on the result. I have said it before that it is important we don’t put too much pressure on the kid. He is developing and will have inconsistent performances.”

“He needs good people around him to manage him when things aren’t going great. There will be ups and downs. In a selfish way, I am glad he is staying (at Cliftonville). He is playing men’s football every week, and he will come into the Northern Ireland Under 19s a year young.”

Moore is already turning heads with his performances, having made his senior debut for Cliftonville in the Irish Cup against Islandmagee FC last year.

This season, the 17-year-old has featured more prominently in the Danske Bank Premiership, making 19 league appearances.

After starting his first game versus Larne back in October, Moore then scored his first goal against the same opponent last month. Just four days later, the forward got his second in a 5-0 win over Dundela FC in the Irish Cup.

Celtic will likely be keeping a close eye on the Irishman’s development, although they will be wary of interest from clubs in England.
