Newcastle Try To Trump Celtic With 1M Offer For League One Teenage Sensation

Newcastle are willing to offer up to £1m for Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph, according to reports in the English media.

The Scottish Under 19 international is out of contract in the summer and he has been heavily linked with Celtic, along with the likes of Rangers and Arsenal.

Due to cross-border rules, the Hoops will only have to pay £200,000 in compensation to sign Joseph but Newcastle are hoping that their proposal will persuade the teenager to move to Tyneside instead.

The forward made his senior debut versus Northampton back in October and he has since gone on to make 14 appearances in League One, scoring five goals. His standout game was undoubtedly his hat-trick against Burton Albion in the 4-3 win just before the New Year.

Whether Joseph will be tempted to stay in England in order to continue his development or move north of the border, we shall have to wait and see.
