Old Firm Rivals Vying To Sign Wednesday Shot Stopper

Outside of Celtic Park

Celtic and Rangers are among four clubs keeping a close eye on Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson’s contract situation, according to the Sheffield Star.

The 24-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer, and while the Wednesday youth academy graduate wants to stay at his hometown club, he has left the door open to leaving Hillsborough at the end of the season:

“I love this place. It means an awful lot to me. If there is a chance to stay here, then excellent.”

Whether Dawson is being lined up as a potential replacement for Fraser Forster, it remains to be seen. The Celtic star’s loan deal from Southampton ends in June and there have yet to be talks regarding a  permanent move back to Parkhead.

It’s likely that the Hoops’ Head of Football Operations Nicky Hammond is scouting other potential options just in case the deal for Forster doesn’t work out.

Dawson was not Wednesday’s first-choice keeper at the start of the season, with Keiren Westwood taking the gloves, but he has wrestled the number one spot off his teammate, making 17 appearances so far, conceding 13 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.
