Poll Reveals The Top Five Managers That Fans Want To See Take The Reins At Celtic

Outside of Celtic Park

On Thursday last week, we published a poll to gauge the opinion of Celtic supporters on who should be the club’s next manager.

We included seven names on the list, including current caretaker manager John Kennedy, and we asked fans who they would prefer to take charge ahead of next season.

The results did not spring any surprises, although there were some in favour of bringing in one particular coach who had managed the club with great success before.

Press the next page as we countdown the five managers supporters want to take charge at Celtic Park.

5) Thierry Henry – 5.88% of the vote

The Arsenal legend has returned to the UK following a stint with MLS side Montreal Impact, in order to be closer to his family, so he would be available for the role.

However, it must be said that Henry’s time in charge of Monaco a couple of years ago did not end well and supporters would be keen to have someone with a bit more experience.

4) Frank Lampard – 5.88% of the vote

The former Chelsea manager has been heavily linked with the Celtic post, having left his job at Stamford Bridge back at the start of January.

Lampard got Derby to the English Championship playoff final in his first season as a manager and finished 4th with Chelsea last campaign, despite a transfer ban, but it would be a risk to hand him the reins at Parkhead.

3) Martin O’Neill – 7.35% of the vote

We included the Irishman in our poll to see if any supporters would like to see the 69-year-old return for a second spell at the club, where he won three league titles.

Although there was some appetite among the fanbase for O’Neill, it does seem like it would be a choice based on nostalgia rather than a forward-looking decision.

2) Rafa Benitez – 33.82% of the vote

The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss was a comfortable second in the voting, and it is not hard to see why considering his record as a manager over the last 20 years.

Benitez won the league title twice with Valencia, and also secured the UEFA Cup. He lifted the FA Cup and Champions League with Liverpool and a Europa League with Chelsea.

1) Eddie Howe – 45.59% of the vote

The runaway winner of the poll was the former Bournemouth head coach. The Englishman is currently second favourite with the bookies for the job behind caretaker manager John Kennedy.

Howe is a young coach, with a reputation for playing attractive, attacking football, and during his two spells with Bournemouth, he guided them from the fourth tier to the Premier League.
