Postecoglou Clears Up Giakoumakis Confusion As New Club Enter Battle To Sign 3.5M Celtic Star

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Giorgos Giakoumakis missed the 4-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night due to injury.

There had been claims that the Greek international was being protected, so as not to jeopardise a move away from Parkhead, but Postecoglou says the forward could be back in the matchday squad for the Scottish Cup tie against Greenock Morton this weekend:

“Giakoumakis and Carter-Vickers pulled up sore from the weekend. At a stretch, Giako might be available for Saturday.”

It is believed that Urawa Red Diamonds have had a bid accepted for Giakoumakis, while MLS side Atlanta United and Serie A club Sampdoria are also said to be keen on securing the 28-year-old’s services.

However, reports in the Spanish media suggest that La Liga outfit Cadiz could now enter the running for the striker. They have reportedly begun negotiations with Celtic but they will have to match the €4m (£3.5m) that Urawa have offered. It appears that there could be more twists and turns in this transfer before Giakoumakis’s future is finally resolved.
