Postecoglou Reveals Talks Are “Taking Place” Over Double Deal That Could Be Worth 16.5M

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has said that chief executive Michael Nicholson is working hard on signing loanees Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis.

It has been reported that the Hoops have a purchase option on Jota which is worth £6.5m, while Spurs are said to be demanding £6m (plus £4m in add-ons) for Carter-Vickers. Postecoglou insists, however, that while the club are keen to get the two deals agreed, he would not give any guarantees about whether either will be finalised:

“Those discussions will be taking place over the course of the next period with Michael Nicholson at the forefront of that. It’ll take care of itself. If I say we’re closer regarding them, it’s as if something’s happened. We all live in a romanticised version of life but it usually comes down to what drives the individual. Finances come into it, and other factors can influence the decision. I’m not going to try and convince anyone to stay. If you don’t understand how special it is to be a part of this place, nothing I’m going to say will change that. I know Cam and Jota love representing this club. They’re contributing right now and that’s all I need to see.”

The Jota deal is believed to depend on the player himself. There is a feeling that he is keen on going back to Benfica and giving things another go now a new manager is in charge.

Carter-Vickers, on the other hand, seems to be open to making the switch to Parkhead but negotiations with Tottenham are likely to be difficult. The £10m fee has been widely reported but it has been disputed in some quarters. It will be hoped that a deal can be done for significantly below that figure.
