Postecoglou Speaks Out Amid Claims Celtic Star Is Being Lined Up For Premier League Switch

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says Matt O’Riley has not had his head turned by recent speculation linking him with a move to Leicester City.

It has been suggested that the 21-year-old is being considered as a replacement for Youri Tielemans, who is being targeted by Arsenal and Manchester United. However, Postecoglou claims he has not noticed any changes in O’Riley’s application in training that indicates he’s looking for a transfer:

“I’ve not seen anything from Matt to suggest he’s thinking about these things. The players know why big clubs might come in for them. It’s not because we’ve given them publicity – it’s the work they do, day in and day out.”

Postecoglou does not explicitly deny that there has been interest in O’Riley but it’s clear the Australian feels that the midfielder’s development would be best served by staying at Celtic Park.

The Danish Under 21 international only made the switch from MK Dons during the January transfer window, when the Hoops triggered a £1.5m release clause in his contract. Since then, he has impressed supporters with his ability but it will be hoped that he sticks around and shows off what he can do during his first full season in Scottish football.
