Celtic midfielder James McCarthy is looking to leave Parkhead just a year after joining the Hoops, according to reporter Fraser Fletcher.
The journalist, who has worked for the BBC, claims that the Republic of Ireland international is “disappointed” with his lack of game time and would like a move elsewhere:
🚨 James McCarthy is looking to move after a difficult time at Celtic.
Im told the 31 year old is dissapointed with how things have gone and seeking a new challenge for the season . Interest is there and some offers being prepared.

McCarthy hasn’t exactly set the world alight when handed opportunities by manager Ange Postecoglou so fans on Twitter are pretty happy to let the player leave:
Probably for the best. He’ll be on a big wage and he’s got a fairly long contract. Shame it hasn’t really worked out for him.

He is not the player he was when he should have moved to Celtic. Injury prone and ineffective since he arrived.

Considering he played only 66 league games in the previous 6 years it was a dreadful contract and I remember reading 30k a week, baffling

The 31-year-old was surprisingly given a four-year contract when he joined on a free last summer. He had struggled with injuries during spells at Everton and Crystal Palace and, despite having a decent reputation, he has not impressed since arriving in Scotland.
McCarthy managed just four starts in the league during his first season at Celtic Park, with 22 appearances in total. The fact that he didn’t even make the bench against Aberdeen kind of tells you all you need to know about where he fits in the pecking order.
