‘Probably For The Best’ ‘Won’t Be Missed’ Fans React As BBC Journalist Confirms Celtic Star Is “Seeking A New Challenge”

Celtic midfielder James McCarthy is looking to leave Parkhead just a year after joining the Hoops, according to reporter Fraser Fletcher.

The journalist, who has worked for the BBC, claims that the Republic of Ireland international is “disappointed” with his lack of game time and would like a move elsewhere:

McCarthy hasn’t exactly set the world alight when handed opportunities by manager Ange Postecoglou so fans on Twitter are pretty happy to let the player leave:

The 31-year-old was surprisingly given a four-year contract when he joined on a free last summer. He had struggled with injuries during spells at Everton and Crystal Palace and, despite having a decent reputation, he has not impressed since arriving in Scotland.

McCarthy managed just four starts in the league during his first season at Celtic Park, with 22 appearances in total. The fact that he didn’t even make the bench against Aberdeen kind of tells you all you need to know about where he fits in the pecking order.
