Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Hannes Wolf could be allowed to leave the Bundesliga side on loan this month, according to Kicker.

Celtic were linked with the Austrian international last week and the German magazine have now confirmed that both the Hoops and Rapid Vienna are the leading contenders to sign the player.

Wolf only joined Gladbach on a permanent basis from RB Leipzig for €9.5m (£8m) last summer and so there was some scepticism that Celtic would be able to afford the 22-year-old.

However, Kicker‘s claim that he is available on loan gives the rumour some more credibility. While Reo Hatate has already been signed to add more options in midfield, Wolf offers a slightly different skillset.

During his time playing in Austria for Red Bull Salzburg, he was a goalscoring midfielder, and it could be the case that Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou sees him as a potential alternative to Tom Rogic.
