Report Claims That 22 Year Old Was Pushing For 6.4M Celtic Switch This Summer

Benfica forward Jota was the one who wanted to have a purchase clause included in his loan move to Celtic, according to Record.

The Portuguese tabloid claims that the 22-year-old’s switch to Parkhead represented a shift in policy by Benfica who generally don’t include options to buy when they loan out young players.

Jota appears keen on leaving the Estadio da Luz if his Celtic stay proves to be successful. The price for signing the former Portuguese Under 21 international on a permanent basis, though, is quite a hefty one.

Record report that the Hoops can snap up Jota for €7.5m (around £6.4m), which would make him the ninth most expensive player in the Scottish club’s history, just behind Rafael Scheidt.

The Portuguese star could get his first appearance for his new club when Celtic take on Ross County at Parkhead on Saturday. Manager Ange Postecoglou will be keen to see his side bounce back straight away after the loss in the derby.
