Romano Confirms Celtic Are ‘Set To Sign’ Danish Midfield Enforcer

Celtic are “set to sign” Rubin Kazan defensive midfielder Oliver Abildgaard, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reports that an agreement is in place for the Danish international to make the switch to Parkhead before the transfer window closes this evening:

Abildgaard isn’t someone that has been linked with the Hoops over the course of the summer, but manager Ange Postecoglou has been looking to sign a holding midfield player.

The Scottish champions were very keen on recruiting Vinicius Souza but the Brazilian opted to join La Liga side Espanyol instead. Other players have also been mentioned but Abildgaard’s name has risen to the top of the list.

The 26-year-old does have a similar profile to Nir Bitton. He is a tall midfielder who can be used as an auxiliary centre-back if required. He will most likely be a squad player, considering how well the likes of Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate have started the campaign, but he will give Postecoglou another option.
