Ryan Reveals Why He Ended Up Moving To Real Sociedad Instead Of Celtic

Maty Ryan has confirmed he did not receive an offer from Celtic to sign for the Scottish club this summer.

The Australian international was heavily linked with both the Hoops and Arsenal before he eventually made the switch to Real Sociedad instead. Ryan says that rumours about moving to Glasgow likely surfaced due to the appointment of Ange Postecoglou:

“It was never a concrete option, obviously there was a lot of speculation in the media about it. The timing of it all, Ange had just arrived there and I think he was taking a look at his squad and all that. It never eventuated into anything so at that time Real came along, expressed an interest and we really liked the project that was being described to us.”

Celtic eventually secured the services of Joe Hart from Tottenham, with the experienced England international having provided a more assured presence at the back so far.

Whether he’ll turn out to be a good signing, we shall have to wait and see, but supporters are relieved that the gloves are not being entrusted to the likes of Scott Bain and VasilisBarkas.

The Greek international, in particular, has struggled for form since arriving at Celtic Park last year, and the club are currently trying to find a buyer for the keeper, who cost £5m.
