Serbian Ace Set To Snub Celtic And Palace Offers As He Looks To Make Breakthrough At La Liga Giants

Atletico Madrid striker Ivan Saponjic will set aside offers from Celtic and Crystal Palace as he looks to make his first-team breakthrough with the La Liga club, according to AS.

The Madrid-based publication says the former Serbian Under 21 international is determined to make a good impression on manager Diego Simeone, despite only making three brief cameo appearances during his first season at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Saponjic was an unused substitute on no less than 21 occasions last campaign and he clearly feels he is still in Simeone’s thoughts, even though he has had very limited game time.

It is debatable whether Celtic manager Neil Lennon needs another striker anyway. The Hoops have already signed Albian Ajeti from West Ham this summer, and the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Patryk Klimala and Leigh Griffiths are also first-team options.

Griffiths has had his disciplinary and fitness issues this season but he is closing in on a return to action. The game against Ross County tomorrow may come too soon for him, though.
