Sky Sports Pundit Backs Championship Poacher To Make January Switch To Celtic

Former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is backing Sheffield Wednesday forward Jordan Rhodes to make the move to Celtic in the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old is reportedly being monitored by the Hoops and when asked about Rhodes, the Sky Sports pundit said the Scottish international would benefit by moving from the English Championship to Scotland:

“No one is looking to give him that opportunity in the Premier League so Celtic is the next best thing for him. Talking about Champions League football, winning trophies, fighting with Rangers, so I think for someone like Jordan Rhodes that could be really good for him.”

Rhodes was a substitute in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat against Cardiff City and he has not been a regular starter for his club this campaign.

He could well be available next month, but there are question marks over whether he would be the right type of striker for Celtic. Manager Neil Lennon is looking for a backup option for Odsonne Edouard.

The Frenchman is able to lead the line on his own due to his athleticism and physicality, and Rhodes is certainly not a forward who fits that profile. If anything, the Wednesday striker is closer to Leigh Griffiths; a player who has not been picked regularly this season.
