Sutton Identifies One Player Celtic Should Start In Old Firm Clash To Exploit Rangers’ “Weak Link”

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has called on Neil Lennon to start Mikey Johnston in the Old Firm derby tomorrow afternoon. The TV pundit feels the winger would be best suited to take on Rangers captain James Tavernier:

“I think Tavernier is the weak link or one of the weak links at the back for Rangers, I’d like to see Mikey Johnston up against him.”

Based on who Lennon has started on the wings in recent games, it’s probably unlikely that Johnston will be given the nod. Ryan Christie has been selected on the right flank with James Forrest on the left, with the inverted wingers helping the side to some important wins.

Lennon is happy with how the two are performing in their respective roles at the moment, and his recent comments suggest Forrest and Christie are the favourites to start versus Rangers:

“I don’t wanna give too much away, by the way, but you’ve got Ryan coming in on his strong foot, Jamesy coming in and linking the play.”

“We know his preference is to play on the right, and maybe Ryan to play at ten, but I think they’re happy playing and I think they’re happy being involved with the style of play we’re trying this season.”

Johnston has struggled for starts since returning from a groin injury earlier this month. He did bag a goal on his comeback in the 4-1 win over Ross County but he has been restricted to substitute appearances.
